A brand-new Dublin slab looks like the perfect base - flat, clean, uncracked. It is also power-troweled to a closed, glassy surface, and it may still be giving off moisture. Both have to be dealt with before adhesive goes anywhere near it.
The indoor gym turf work the newer Dublin buildings actually call for.
Marked turf lanes for shuttle runs, ladder work and timed sprints, set out to the length your unit can genuinely give you rather than to a standard that does not fit it.

Nearly every floor we get called in to fix on a newer slab failed for one of these four reasons.
A power-troweled surface is dense and slick. Without mechanical profiling the bond is only as good as the laitance sitting on top of the concrete, and the turf lifts at the edges within months.
New concrete carries water for a long time. If it is still driving moisture upward when the floor goes down, it finds the adhesive. A test costs almost nothing next to relaying a floor.
Slab joints move by design. If they are not treated as joints they eventually print a line straight through the turf - filling them and forgetting them is not treating them.
A sprint lane that does not fit the unit is a lane nobody uses. We set the layout out on the actual slab and walk it before anything is cut.
Dublin's newer units come in awkward depths, with columns and door swings in inconvenient places. Setting the agility lanes and sport zones out on the real slab - chalked, walked and adjusted - is what makes them usable once the turf is down.

How we do it
Four stages, and the first two decide whether the floor lasts.
Moisture and flatness checked, control joints located, and the surface assessed for how much profiling it is going to need.
Lanes, zones and any single-sport area chalked onto the slab and walked through with you before a roll gets cut.
Grind and profile, shock pad down, turf rolled, cut, seamed and bonded with the adhesive suited to that slab and the temperature on the day.
Edges and thresholds trimmed in, seams checked, the floor groomed, and the maintenance routine handed over.
A Dublin unit often has to serve a mix - general conditioning, a golf net, a batting area. Pile height and infill get chosen per zone so each one actually plays the way it should.

It depends entirely on the depth of your unit and where the columns and doors sit. We set the lane out on your slab in chalk so you can walk it before committing, rather than promising a distance that turns out not to fit.
Yes, by zoning it. Heavier shock pad goes under the racks and drop areas, a lighter build-up under the open class space, and the turf runs across the whole thing as one surface so there are no edges to trip on.
Yes. Single-sport areas want a different pile height and infill from general gym turf, so we treat them as their own zone within the same floor rather than laying one turf everywhere and hoping it suits both.
Regularly, and it is the easiest time to do it. The slab is accessible, nothing is installed on top of it yet, and we can flag moisture or flatness problems while they are still cheap to fix.
